Well...Here it is. I now have a blog. And I actually have an interesting story to start it off with.
Last Tuesday I wanted to take a friend and his wife out for a few beers and some dinner to celebrate their birthdays which are this Saturday and Sunday. So he's been telling me about this place that opened up out in Manor which has live music called The Oaks. We decided to go there and hang out for a while and maybe listen to that night's performer. It turns out that Jessie Lee Miller usually sings on Tuesday's but was not going to be this night due to some problem with either a guitar or the guitarist. Because of this there are only a couple people here including the lady working the bar. We had a few beers, played a few games of pool, and just hung out for a while. I had been helping the bar lady fish for beers in the ice trough which was amusing since neither of us were wearing our glasses. So I would verify the brand of the beer she found and she did the same for me. As I was walking back to our table she says "By the way, this is me on the jukebox." Really! Turns out she is Rosie Flores, who it turns out is quite famous in C&W/Folk/Rockabilly music circles. Way cool, and way good! By this time Jessie Lee had gotten there and was sitting at the bar having a beer and chatting with some people. When those people left it was just my three friends and me, and Rosie and Jessie. So Jessie then brings the birthday couple out to the middle of the floor and gives them the best C&W Happy Birthday that I've ever heard!
As you can see, my friends were very pleased with this personal birthday song!
After this, we sat back at our table and listened to both Jessie Lee and Rosie sing a bunch of their songs.
It was just one of those nights when you just luck into really special situations.
I ended up buying the latest CD's from both of them, which they kindly personalized for me.
So I guess the only way that we could finish this special evening was to head over to Casino El Camino over on 6th street for a few more beers and some awesome burgers. By the time we finished it was after midnight, which is early by Austin standards. But since I had to get up early the next morning for work it was way late for me. But after all the fun we had I would gladly do it all over again! Might even go see Vallejo out there this Saturday!
Hey, this is kinda fun!
